Life Members

The Cammeray Cricket Club have bestowed Life Membership on 24 players. Ben Scarf was the latest recipient of Life Membership at the end of the 2007/08 season. Life Members are listed below with a brief summary of their careers.

Terry Allen

An energetic opening batsman and handy medium pace bowler, Terry began his career in 1979 and amassed over 3000 runs in his 161 games for the club. He also captured 147 wickets and served in a variety of committee roles.

Phil Bowen

Phil never pulled on the Green & Gold cap of Cammeray but gave great service to the club in committee roles including Treasurer dating back to the early 1970s.

Andrew Bull

“AB” joined the club in 1985. A hard hitting batsman with over 4000 career runs in over 250 games to date. Andrew also captained the B Grade team to a premiership in 1997-98. Bowtell Trophy winner 1997-98.

Harold Conroy
Batsman and star wicketkeeper who debuted in the 1952. N.S.C.A. leading wicketkeeper 4 times in A grade. Harold made an astounding 20 stumpings in the 1958-59 season.

Max Delany
Max was a fine bowler who debuted in 1948. In a long and stellar career he took over 400 wickets, winning the N.S.C.A. A Grade bowling aggregate and average awards in 1953-54 with 55 wickets @ 10.58 including a hattrick. Max also won the N.S.C.A. averages for A Grade in 1954-55 and again in 1961-62.

Bob Dhu

Bob played in the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s. The last available details of his career show Bob scoring 233 runs @ 21 in the 1963-64 B grade season. Bob also claimed a hattrick in 1946-47.

David Dickinson

Club President from 1982 to 1993, Dicko’s career began in 1975. He played in over 120 games spread across nearly 30 years and served on the committee in various roles. He remains an active supporter of the club.

Frank Galvin
Frank debuted in 1949 and had great all-round success. He had a brilliant season in 1953-53 scoring 752 runs and taking 49 wickets. Frank scored over 3000 runs and took over 100 wickets.

Jason Harrod

Aggressive pace bowler and hard hitting middle order batsman. A true all-rounder, Jason scored over 4000 runs and took 240 wickets in over 200 games for the club. Jason also captained the A Grade team to three premierships in the 1990’s. Bowtell Trophy winner 1993-94.

Glen Jones

A former Club President, Glen was a great supporter of the club over many decades. He was always seen at a Cammeray game supporting the club in many ways until bad health curtailed his involvement.

Gary Kershaw

A middle order batsman and occasional bowler who played 144 games for the club from 1979. Gary’s career spanned all grades for the club finishing in A Reserve Grade in the 1992-93 season. Gary also captain a number of teams late in his career.

John MacDonald

One of Cammeray’s all time greats, John made in excess of 5000 runs and took over 190 wickets in a career beginning in 1944. John was a dominant force for Cammeray with season aggregates such as 736 runs in 1947-48, including 40 sixes, and 533 runs in 1958-59 commonplace. John was also a very handy bowler capturing a hattrick in his 53 wicket haul in 1947-48.

John Meillon

The Clubs most capped player with over 300 games. “Junior” began playing in 1981 and has captured in excess of 800 wickets and scored over 2000 runs. Winner of the John Bowtell Trophy in 1992-93.

Simon Mitchell

Simon’s career spanned 171 games from 1986. A popular opening bowler who captured 364 wickets, Simon was the competition’s leading wicket taker in A Grade 3 years in succession during the 1990’s. Simon is also a dual Bowtell Trophy winner.

Gary Nelson

A right arm medium pace bowler and middle order batsman, Gary was one of the driving forces responsible for the clubs resurgence in 1972. Gary shares the club record for most wickets in a season, 80 in 1974-75 and retired on a high note winning the N.S.C.A. A Reserve Grade bowling average in the 1983-84 season with 37 wickets @ 10.13. Clubman of the Year in 1978-79.

Jim Nelson

With brother Gary, Jim played in the 1970’s and early 80’s. A very popular left hand batsman and swing bowler, Jim won the Clubman of the Year in 1976-77 and 1977-78.

Ted Nelson

Father of Life Members Gary and Jim. Details of Ted’s career are sparse, but it’s believed he began playing in the 1950‘s.

Michael Notley

Michael’s career began in 1984 and is one of only two players to top 5000 career runs for the club. A former club President, Michael has given many years of sterling service to the club in a variety of committee roles.

Alan Riddell

A top order batsman and useful medium pace bowler, Alan played his last game in the early 1980’s.

Ben Scarf

A true all rounder, Ben debuted in 1995 and played over 140 games, many as Captain. While his statistics, over 2400 runs and 267 wickets, speak volumes for his ability, Ben will be equally well remembered for his zealous contribution to the essence and culture of Cammeray, both as a player, Captain and mentor. Bowtell Trophy winner in 2004-05.

Steve Si

A very popular player and hard hitting batsman with in excess of 4000 runs to his name. With a career beginning in 1994, Steve also dabbled in leg spin bowling and wicket keeping and is closing in on 200 games.

Neil Smith

Over a career commencing in 1975, Neil became the first player to take 1000 wickets for Cammeray. He is the Club and Association leading wicket taker with 1010 wickets in a career covering 301 games. Also an N.S.C.A. Life Member and dual Bowtell Trophy winner.

Loch van den Berg

Loch announced his arrival to the club in 1991 with a score of 205 n.o. in his first season. Better known for his bowling these days with over 300 wickets. Loch has also served the club and the N.S.C.A. in various committee roles including Cammeray club President from 2004 -08.

Alan Webb
Alan was an allrounder in the 1940’s and 50’s. He scored 210 not out in B Grade in the 1948-49 season and also captured 45 wickets that season. Alan also captured 39 wickets @ 11 in A Grade in the 1957-58 season.
