Is Selective Cleaning A Crime?

Smirnoff get clean - Photo: Alex Foley

Is it vandalism, public nuisance or a clever way to “get up”?

Paul Curtis aka Moose is no regular graffiti artist. In fact, he is the opposite - what one may call a ‘reverse-graffiti’ artist. He creates his art by cleaning dirt from surfaces with only a shoe brush, some water and a little bit of elbow grease.

British authorities aren’t sure what to make of the artist who is creating graffiti by cleaning the grime of urban life. The Leeds City Council has been considering what to do with Moose. “I’m waiting for the kind of Monty Python court case where exhibit A is a pot of cleaning fluid and exhibit B is a pair of my old socks,” he jokes.

His work includes street art for HP and XBox. Does it mean we’ll see this style of street art catch on here, and in turn reduce the number of street sprays and chalkings? Would the authorities take a dim view? Only time will tell, but I for one love the concept.

Flash Beer

The follow up to the Big Ad. This is the latest advert from Carlton Draught.

Nude Trampolining

Spring has sprung, the grass is riz. I wonder where the birdy is? With such warm weather, all you want to do is get your gear off and get outside amongst it.

Ahem.. well, yes.. sure. Anyway, here’s a typically nutball online promo and flash game from the Tequila Sydney mob.

Anyone for Nude Trampolining?

Now, where are my pants?

The Power Of The Suit

A boy dons a suit in suburban Minneapolis and his lemonade sales increase sixfold.

Check out the ABC interview with Ethan Esparza.

Give him a pocket square and undo that bottom button and I bet he can improve further.

Other humorous links: an oldie, Obey The Suit.

Corporate Branding

Branding

Ouch! Taking the corporate brand to a new level. I could just see the religious brand-whores out there… Concept by M. Leak.

On another level, it reminded me of a scene from the movie Jarhead. If you’re not familiar with the movie, Jarhead is a Gulf War memoir by author Anthony Swofford aka Swoff. This movie (and book on which the movie was based) recounts Swofford’s enlistment and service in the United States Marine Corps during the First Gulf War, in which he served as a scout sniper.

Swoff (Jake Gyllenhaal) is assigned to C Company upon his arrival at the Marine base. On entering the barracks, he finds other Marines struggling to use a homemade USMC brand on a guy’s leg. After they finish, they move on to Swoff. Struggling, he passes out as the brand hits his skin. When he wakes up, it is explained to him that he has to earn the brand; the whole thing was a show, for his benefit.

The Art of Guerrilla Marketing

Read Sun Tzu’s The Art of War? Doesn’t matter, here’s a tongue-in-cheek perspective of the classic with a guerrilla marketing gaze.

  1. Set out to change the world
  2. It’s not about the battle, it’s about the war
  3. Power to the people
  4. Deploy mercenaries wisely
  5. Think small, but spectacular
  6. Keep them guessing
  7. Get the gold and get out
  8. Lead the charge
  9. Don’t forget propaganda
  10. Don’t get killed by friendly fire

Searching for Porn, Sex and Jakob Nielsen

Since I posted the item about Briton’s use of porn online I’ve seen a steady flow of traffic from the search phrase “Porn Online”.

Trawling back through my online traffic metrics, and I’ve pulled out some of the more interesting or peculiar search terms that have some relationship to pornography over the past few years. In no particular order, they are:

  • there’s something about miriam porn
  • photos of japanese pornographic ladies
  • hermaphrodite sex pics

…and for the pièce de résistance, there is:

jakob nielsen sex

Now, why anybody would be entering that as a search term, I have no idea. Furthermore, how people have reached my site using that term is simply a laugh. However, I can see that I would be getting traffic from the combination of the terms “Nielsen” and “porn” due to the aforementioned article, even though it is a different “Nielsen

So, now I bet you’re wondering who Jakob Nielsen is? He’s the self-confessed king of usability. Ok… that’s cool you’re thinking, but is he a good looker? Well, I’ll leave that one up to you.
