I've recently relocated to London from Sydney and I'll ramble about good food and drink around town, eclectic electronic music, absolutely anything to do with digital media, throw some sport (more than likely cricket) in and the odd personal experience — as seen through my camera lens.

Australia Day. Invasion Day. It was a bleak looking day, and certainly a lot cooler than those of the past few days.

Throw some lamb on the BBQ? Not today thanks. We’re in support of the true multiculturism in this country, so we’ll thank the Spaniards and celebrate with some wonderful jamon for the first course.

Second course – Fino manzanilla and miso-cured ocean trout.

Third – Gin and tonic jellies with elderflower ice cream.

Very spoilt was I… and I did watch some of the cricket as well.

Kristin Hersh performing at the Sydney Festival.

Not an event that I would have ordinarily selected, her performance was candid, wry and certainly vivid (where’s my foot?) as she spoke about stories of her life growing up or with her band The Throwing Muses and interjected it with various pieces of music.

Eclectic but certainly enjoyable.

Can I also say "Bravo" to Festival organisers this year in having a decent alcoholic beverage supplier. Little Creatures, Rogers and Pipsqueak for the win.

Today was hot. Ridiculously hot.

I played cricket and felt like I was melting. Batting for over an hour, sucking in super-heated 41 degree air. Gasp! Another 2…. on my way to 45 as we finished with 191 which was well and truly enough as we demolished the opposition for 87. I took 1/8 off 4 which was more than reasonable.

Racing off home, I had to make it to the Opera House to see The Matthew Herbert Big Band – another Sydney Festival event.

Herbert’s Big Band project combines the cream of the jazz scene, both locally for the tour and from Europe, on trumpets, trombones, saxophones, piano, bass and drums – with Herbert’s own mad professor tomfoolery and the one moment booming, the next, dulcet tones of Eska Mtungwazi (pictured).

Herbert played a ’secret gig’ at the Spiegeltent that night, which we planned to go to for a while but fatigue set in. The same reason as to why we didn’t make it to see Mathew Jonson either – but he’s playing again this weekend.

Departing Brisbane after a day of pitching new business.

After having a look on the map, I think this Bulwer Island just to the east of the airport.

It’s been a long day, so goodnight.

Starting today over at Flickr, it will be a one picture a day affair.

One photo.
Every day.
For a year.
No crap.
No fillers.

Open Doors Can Be Fatal

Protect Bicyclists

As a cyclist, the opening door is one of your worst nightmares. You think you’re riding wide enough to avoid a swinging door and all of a sudden BANG! You’re flipping in the air and into the middle of the road into the path of a car.

Doors can be fatal for cyclists, and this campaign is trying to raise money in Chicago to inform motorists of the dangers their doors pose to cyclists.

Remember the old saying – “Look left, look right, look bike”? Perhaps it’s time for all motorists to remember it. Or for that fact, perhaps all motorists should be made to drive amongst peak hour traffic so that they understand what harm they often do to the commuting cyclist.

(Stolen from KTC. If you’re a cyclist, feel free to steal this content!)
