Schadenfreude

No, daughter dearest. You can’t have a pony. © www.post-gazette.com
And whilst America votes and we see the balance of power swing towards the Democrats and put an end to the Republican Revolution (not to mention the great photo above), I thought this quote from my favourite TV show, The West Wing was appropriate.
White House Press Secretary C. J. Cregg notes that after an important member of the White House staff, and a friend of hers, made a grand political mistake, Washington insiders will be enjoying schadenfreude. Donna asks for the definition of the word, Cregg responds “You know, enjoying the suffering of others. The whole rationale behind the House of Representatives.”
Season 6 of The West Wing starts this month on the ABC.

This photo says so much. I like how the daughter’s dress matches her doll’s. I like the older daughter’s look of pity. I like the younger son’s ’stunned mullet’ expression. I like the wife’s look of cynicism.
I’m also worried that he’s making a politcial speech in what looks like a church.

It does indeed look like a church, and readingt the below would make you think that it’s certainly the case.
From Wikipedia:
Richard John ‘Rick’ Santorum (born May 10, 1958) is the junior United States Senator from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He is serving out the remainder of his second term after losing his re-election bid in the November 7, 2006 elections. Santorum is a member of the Republican Party and was the chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, the number-three job in the party leadership of the Senate.
Santorum is well known for his conservative social and fiscal stances, and many describe him as the Senate’s most conservative Christian. In recent years, some of Santorum’s comments and public statements, particularly on homosexuality and sexual privacy rights, have been controversial. He has also been criticized for his stance on Social Security, intelligent design, and the Terri Schiavo case.
Santorum was defeated by a wide margin for re-election in the 2006 U.S. Senate election by Democratic candidate Bob Casey, Jr.

Secularism is a dirty word in Republican Party circles.
