Rambling and blogging for over 8 years, from good food and drink around town, eclectic electronic music, absolutely anything to do with digital media, throw some sport (more than likely cricket) in and the odd personal experience — as seen through my viewfinder.

Late Nite Deep Beats

The Sentinel from Southern Outpost drops a favourable minimalistic dubbed out mix, heavily saturated in Basic Channel, Chain Reaction and Deep Chord. In the mix is ‘Phylyps Trak II’ (51:50 mark), probably one of my most played records in my collection - the quintessential minimal dub release.

Update - tracklisting:

Untitled - Deepchord - Deepchord 11
Quadrant Dub 1 - Quadrant - Basic Channel 06
6 - Various Artists - Chain Reaction 02
Untitled - Deepchord - Deepchord 13
Untitled - Deepchord - Deepchord 12

Untitled - Maurizio - M7
Recoil - Theorem Vs Stewart Walker - Minus/THX3a

[Update: 15/5/07 - The mix link is dead. I’ll see if I can organise something]

I don’t think phylyps trak II is on there.
This music still sounds as fresh as it did back in the day…ahhh
reminds me of summer time adelaide in the mid 90s…all those pokey, sweaty little underground events with the 1x strobe, 1x smoke machine, 1x bargain basement /harris scarf style red flashing light.
Never realised sydney kids got into this, and I lived there for the past 3-4 years (recently moved O/S).
IMO sounds better than the official ‘Scion - arrange & process’ that came out a few years back. They put in a ravey doof doof sounding kick throughout the ableton live mix. Although I prefer their track selection.

ok make me look bad Benn
it must be the track on the flip side
I’m thinking of the more upbeat shuffley plonky phylps trak II
all my vinyl is still in sydney, so I can’t check!

Ahh… no dramas! Not intentionally done to make you look bad!

Patrick’s done a great mix here.. I remember Mako (the Adelaide one) doing a BC mix when they all first came out c. 1994, but I’ve not seen that tape for a long time.

I think CPat still has it in his car collection. :)
